About this product

Product Information

In the bestselling BAND OF BROTHERS, Stephen E. Ambrose portrayed in vivid detail the experiences of soldiers who fought on the bloody battlegrounds of World War II. THE WILD BLUE brings to life another extraordinary band of brothers - the men who volunteered to join the American Air Force and undertook some of the most demanding and dangerous jobs in the war. Focusing on the men of the 741st Bomb Squadron and, in particular, the crew of the DAKOTA QUEEN, these are the boys turned pilots, bombardiers, navigators and gunners of the B24s, who suffered 50 per cent casualties during conflict. With his extraordinary talent for bringing alive the action and tension of combat, Ambrose sweeps us along in the B24s as their crews fought to the death to reach their targets and destroy the German war machine.

The book arrived on time and was packaged securely. The book was listed as “good” but it looks pretty much brand new to me. I am extremely happy with my purchase, especially at the price point. The seller was quick to respond to my messages, too. I recommend this seller.

Great story about a famous politician's war experiences

This is the story of George McGovern's experiences flying B-24s during WWII. Great book, and it was Stephen Ambrose's last "real" book before dying of cancer in 2002. (His final book, To America, was a collection of short subjects about history and writing in general.) I saw the author speak locally in 2001 when the book was released and got a signed copy at the time, but it was lost in my divorce. It was good to replace it with this one!

  • It defines where they spent their time

It is an excellent look at where these members of the best generation ever born lived and died for country. Most of them had never heard of the places they were going to. Most had never been out of the states they lived in. But they wanted to help their country, but most of all their families. They never had any idea they could die doing so, but did it anyway. The ones that died will forever stay young and young at heart. Please never forget their sacrifice and that thousands of these men and women never got the chance to live a life as young people where war was not apart of every day life. God bless them all!!!!!!!!!!

  • Great history book!

I have bought two of these books. After reading the first one, I sent it to a WWII pilot I met in Washington, DC this summer. I loved the book so much that I had to replace the one I sent to the pilot so I could keep it in my library. I believe Ambrose is the greatest military writer because he can relate the intricacies of battle so everyone can understand it. He personalizes each story and gives a human side to the horrors of war. I have all his books, and each one is a rare gem.

  • The Wild Blue by Stephen E. Ambrose Jr. (2001)

One of many WWII novels written by Mr. Ambrose. As usual, a wonderful and informative read. The author makes you feel like you were right there, whether it be in a B-17 bomber, or in a Nazi P.O.W. camp. Recommended reading for any history buff or WWII fan.
