easy to read, pack, and use with great bonus info.

I'm usually a scroll saw user and power carver. Love it, but hard to carry the tools and I needed something simpler (but not easier) to do with my kids and in the outdoors. This is a great teaching tool with wonderful ideas and examples. Important ! Keep knife and wits sharp are the ten rules.

  • AUTHOR OF "PEACH STONE CARVING "FINDS the LITTLE BOOK OF WHITTLING ENJOYABLE

Well written, pictures are clear, easy to see, just very basic whittling experience needed. As the author of a carving book I can appreciate the effort that went into writing this enjoyable book. I recommended it.

  • Excellent Book!

I bought this book for my husband who is just beginning to have an interest in whittling. This book was perfect because it allows him to simply find sticks even in our yard and to carve out tiny sculptures such as flowers and things our daughters just love. It is perfect for the beginner due to the ease of the projects in addition to the great color photo illustrations and directions. Most whittling books require you to buy special blocks of wood which are not very easily carved and you worry about ruining the piece of wood you have invested in. I would highly recommend this book to the beginner who is ready to go outside on the front porch, pick up a stick (most likely like your grandfather used to do) and carve away!

  • Perfect for beginners and people interested in the outdoors.

Excellent book for beginners. It begins with talking about what whittling is and the pros of delving into this hobby. It teaches you about the various types of trees and some pros and cons of using some of them. One thing I found very helpful is that it shows you how to choose branches so if you can't afford the wood, head outside to your backyard and find a tree. Also, how to choose a good knife and a brief overview of other tools and supplies you can use to refine your piece, including varnishing. There are several projects in the book including a slingshot, walking stick, tree, whistle, cane topper, a few animals, a wooden knife, spoon and others. Each project is presented step by step with clear photos and directions for each step. You are shown the various cutting strokes and ...
