  • Mystery Men has my stymied!

I decided to buy this, never having seen it before, because it was a great price and the cast list is to die for - I'm an Eddie Izzard freak and was searching for anything with him in it, but then to get two of my other absolute faves, Greg Kinnear and Hank Azaria, neither of whom is capable of doing less than a perfect job, I thought I would be in Heaven. Unfortunately, the writing does not live up to the actors' capability; it's too childish and depends too much on clutter. Sure, superheroes need costumes and gadgets, but the props should serve the actors - not the other way around as happened here. It has funny moments, I'm glad I have it, but it's a good thing I'm just not bothering to worry about plot. I just chill and watch my guys. NBR

  • Msytery Men rocks

I cant remember the name of the misfit second rate Super heroesherosheroes on the the ROcky and Bullwinkle show (with Babyman Rope man, etc) but this is like a live action version of the "Second rate super heroes" nobody really hears of or cares about Thought it was funny that the Main Super Hero of the City was missing the good ol days from doing his job to well and was crazy enough to arange the release of his Arch-Enemy for "ol times" sake not realizing he was just lucky he got the upperhand the last time...and of course "Casanova Frankienstien" captures the City's main Super Hero Mostly bought it cause it was 75Cents and it had familiar comedian names in it and the result was that it was expected where they was doing a light hearted movie about being ...

  • Mystery Men

This is a funny movie. For anyone like my husband who laughs whenever he hears a fart, this is a movie for you. The Spleen- farts, that's his power! They each have something they do well and it all comes together in a hilarious movie. Ben Stiller is not a favorite of mine, seems he is always playing an angry or stupid (Zoolander) person. But you can overlook it with all the other actors in this. I bought this because my local video store has a very bad copy and they are not getting another. Figured it would be cheaper to just buy it than keep renting a copy I probrally wore out. Check it out, it's funny!

  • One of our favorites!

Mystery Men is one of our all-time-favorite movies. A word of warning: the humor is a bit off beat. If you like crude frat-style humor, you might want to skip this one. It is about a group of wanna-be super heros with no better life than to run around the city late at night looking for crime. The "official" superhero of the city (Greg Kinnear) is a self-absorbed and highly sponsored media darling. When he runs out of villains to fight, he concocts a scheme to have one of his old nemeses released from an insane asylum to bring him back to his glory days. When his scheme goes wrong, it is up to the wanna-be's to save the day. There is a hilarious line-up of super powers, and one of the highlights of the movie is when they hold try-outs for a super-team and hang with ...

  • Overlooked treasure

I just think this is a great movie. It's a satire, gets a little adolescent at times (Paul Reubens charcter), but overall great. Fantastic cast including what may be Wes Studi's (one of my favorite actors, and usually a really heavy character) only comic role. He's great in it. Moral of the story - we can't all be super heros, but we can all be super.
