Product Information

NATIONAL BESTSELLER! "Cogent, honest, and hard-hitting-a must read for every investor." -Warren E. Buffett Praise for Common Sense on Mutual Funds "Invoking both Thomas Paine and Benjamin Graham, Jack Bogle outlines a supremely logical plan not only to better investors' returns, but to improve the whole fund industry. This isn't just the best book yet by Bogle, it may well be the best book ever on mutual funds." -DON PHILLIPS, President & CEO, Morningstar, Inc. "Buffett cannot teach you or me how to become a Warren Buffett. Bogle's reasoned precepts can enable a few million of us savers to become in twenty years the envy of our suburban neighbors-while at the same time we have slept well in these eventful times."-PAUL A. SAMUELSON, Massachusetts Institute of Technology Department of Economics "After a lifetime of picking stocks, I have to admit that Bogle's arguments in favor of the index fund have me thinking of joining him rather than trying to beat him. Bogle's wisdom and his commonsense way of explaining things make this book indispensable reading for anyone trying to figure out how to invest in this crazy stock market."-JAMES J. CRAMER, Money Manager and Senior Columnist for TheStreet.com "Written in his characteristic forthright and visionary style, Bogle penetrates the myths and jargon to shed a powerful light on the central issues that confront every investor, no matter what their level of experience or sophistication." -MARTIN L. LEIBOWITZ, Vice Chairman and Chief Investment Officer, TIAA-CREF "Jack Bogle is one of the great pioneer/visionaries of the investment business. In this book, he shares his knowledge, experience, and judgment to enable us to become better investors. The final philosophical chapters provide insights that may help some of us become better people." -BYRON R. WIEN, Chief U.S. Investment Strategist Morgan Stanley Dean Witter

  • Commonsense on Mutual Funds

I have some investments in Mutual Funds. While traveling I listen to Talk Radio and I was listening to Money Talk. John Bogle's book was highly recommended as he was the founder and is CEO of the Vanguard Investment Group. Of all books on Mutual Funds it is the #1 on the shelves. I just started to read it. From what I have read it is good. I look forward to finishing it and hope to learn how to improve my investments. After hearing the recommendation I just thought it would be a good book to read so I decided to see if I could find one on eBay and I am glad I did. I suspect that by the time I finish the book my rating will be Excellent.

  • He is the working mans Warren Buffett

John Bogle who founded Vanguard and the very first index fund in the world, knows a little something about investing. Although this book was written 1999 the fundamentals have not changed. The bottom line is very few people can be Warren Buffett or a few of the other investment geniuses in the world. Bogle shows that by investing in a index fund between bonds and equities you will do well as a long term investing. No market timing or day trading gimmicks. Simply buy the Total U.S. Market and the Total Bond Index Market and keep your age in bonds and once a year reallocate your portfolio and the market will do it's magic. By investing in index funds you pay very low fees and get to keep the money you are investing. You are not at the mercy of some manager who takes his profit before ...

  • It Works but it takes TIME

Even more than some asset classes, mutual funds often require to really deliver profits. That's the basic message here - and what you would have known anyway. Not actually much by way of "new" information

  • Excellent title

I like the information in the book, but sometimes it seems a little convoluted. It might be better if it had areas that specifically addressed the investing challenged (like me). However, I plan to read it and use the knowledge to make some investments on my own.. and hopefully a little extra money at the same time.
