A seminal work from the Golden Age of Rap (1992 - 2001), GangStarr's Daily Operation typifies the spectacular ability of rappers (not hip hop artists) as emcees (MCs) to move the crowd adroitly with their engaging lyricism. A (non-graduated) Morehouse College alumnus & founding member of GangStarr, Guru haunts the listener with hard core NYC (Brooklyn) beats, replete with a rapid fire delivery of politically conscious streams of polemic consciousness. From track to track, Guru's pen work yields a range of emotionally accessible moments -- some convivial, others maudlin -- but all non-trivial. They refract his perspectives as a young Black man eager to proclaim his non-inchoate world views on racism, homosocialism, and street political economy. I've kept this CD in heavy rotation for years ... and learn something new each time I listen. My only demerit? Guru's nihilistic lyric that "the SAT was not designed for the lower class, so Blacks should not even try to pass." As you might imagine from my written diction, this nigga had decent SAT scores! 2 or 3 tracks are definite rap anthems. You will certainly enjoy this project!Read full review
I'm a 90's hiphop dude and this album represents from the golden age of hiphop.Premier and Guru shine on Daily Operation. A few lulls in the production but overall tracks are tight. "too deep", "hardcover composer", "ex girl to the next girl", and "take it personal"stand out. Guru is mostly in the format lyrically. Mixes mental wordplay, with street knowledge.
A+++ Thanks!
